Resurgence
circa 1850!
Were you there....? |
11th
November 2011
It's going to be fun this weekend as we launch some new and old 80s song in honour of the Chilly Willy Rally's 80's Alternative Masquerade ball - but there's new stuff on the horizon too, including some Garbage and some Imelda May! Don't forget that lots of our friends, including The Interiorz and the Erics are playing Soberfest on Sunday 27th November and it's all for two brilliant causes - Cancer Research UK and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance - so get yourselves down there - we will be there! SOBERFEST 2011 3rd September 2011 What a great night with our friends at The Hanover. The new Depeche Mode song is now coming along nicely, our friends from Team Sober made it down for the second set and we were joined on stage by Col from Three Daze Lost - another great band! We finished the nigth with an epic version of Mustang Sally! Last weekend we played at the Cross Keys Keez Kneez II charity event and helped to raise £1000 for Martin House and Hannah House Childrens' Hopsices and we've just found out that the Help For Heroes Day at the Royal in Pudsey raised over £1600 too. Next week's Leeds Custom and Classic Bike Rally is raising money for Cancer Research UK and don't forget Frock of the North II at the Cross Keys in October. What a generous lot all you music fans and pub punters are! 16th May 2011 Our only appearance at The Roscoe this year saw us reach a break in our Leeds gigs - we'll be back at The Hanover on 2nd September but won't be back in the city centre until mid-September when we'll be back at the Duck and Drake. We've a few of great bike rallies coming up and will also be taking part in an important charity fundraiser at The Cross Keys in August - more to follow soon. Resurgence won't be appearing at this year's Frock of the North due to gig clashes along the way, but rest assured we will be at next year's! If you're not the bike rally type - see you in September, and meanwhile, during the summer, why not check out what Dave and Helen are up to with their other band - The Interiorz 7th March 2011 An alcohol fuelled night was enjoyed by all our good friends who gathered at the Lion last weekend to help Graeme and Kerrie celebrate their impending nuptuals. The happy couple tie the knot this coming Saturday, and Prince Alfie of RotN recently turned a year old, so double congratulations to them both - and we hope to see you all at the Duck and Drake in April for Kerrie's first gig with her new surname! 19th February 2011 Thanks to all who came to the Duck last week and one last happy birthday to Julie! Today we're proud to play at Chris and Claire's wedding reception - congratulations to the happy couple. Talking of happy couples, in Mid March, Graeme and Kerrie are tying the knot so the gig at the Lion on 5th March will not only be Kerrie's last gig under her old surname, but also their joint hen and stag party - and you're all invited! 4th January 2011 Happy New Year everyone! See you at the first gig of the year - back at the Duck and Drake on Sunday 13th February - get ready for some lurveas it's the nearest party day to Valentine's Day! 28th December 2010 It was a night of mixed emotions at the Duck last weekend: First the Christmas party with celebrations for Kerrie's 100th gig, Bomber's birthday (complete with surprise Quo tickets - for once we'll forgive you for leaving part way through our gig dude!) - and also fan Gary's birthday. Then a sad moment as we took time out to allow guest drummer Jeff to join Helen, Dave and Gary on stage to play a musical tribute to mark the passing of a very dear friend - Gary Strain, frontman of Tantrum, with whom it has been our great pleasure to share the stage in the past and who gave Resurgence their first ever bike rally. He was a top top bloke taken far too soon and we'll miss him. The night ended with the customary attempt to break through into the cellar with renditions of 500 miles, Nellie the Elephant and the Time Warp - but the floor lives to host another party - same time next year everyone! Thank you to everyone who made the night so special for so many reasons - and a peaceful and happy new year to you all. See you in 2011. x 12th December 2010 A great first night at The Hanover Arms and a big thank you to Jeff from Tantrum who stood in at incredibly short notice after Graeme injured his back - Alfie's getting quite big now LOL! We played a few different songs from various other bands' sets to supplement some of the Resurgence favourites and the pub was soon dancing about to Boots, Kids in America, The Timewarp and Nellie The Elephant to name but a few. With any luck Graeme will be back on the stool in time for our last gig of 2010 - our home gig at The Duck and Drake - those of you who were at last year's party will recall the feeling that there was a risk of falling through into the cellar during the choruses of 500 miles - wonder if they've strengthened those joists...? 27th November 2010 The Bridge gig on 3rd December is cancelled so there's only two chances left this year - our first appearance at The Hanover Arms and then the annual Christmas bash at the Duck. Hope to see you there! 26th September 2010 A huge thanks to everybody who made it down to the Duck last weekend - we had a brilliant time and based on the way the room was bouncing and the beer was flowing we reckon you all did too! Hope you liked the new songs - and there's more to come too. See you again at the Duck on 30th October (optional Halloween Fancy Dress of course, in honour of the Duck's Halloween weekend!) 16th August 2010 It was an absolute pleasure to be back rocking the Cross Keys at the weekend - here's a link to: The Old Git Mav's review! Can't wait to go back next year! And this weekend we're returning to see more old friends - at The Bridge in Huddersfield! Look out Dawn, Derek and the gang - Resurgence are back! 12th July 2010 It's here - the moment you've all been waiting for - the official comeback gig is this Sunday tea-time at the Thornhill Arms. Why would you want to be anywhere else! 21st June 2010 We want to thank everyone who came down for Nigel Blooz' Birthday Bash at Mr Foley's. Sadly, due to his hospitalisation that very morning, the guest of honour himself was unable to be there. Here's wishing him a speedy recovery and return to the live music promotions scene. Meanwhile, after a great warm-up, the Official... Comeback Gig and 6th Birthday Bash at The Thornhill Arms on 18th July is looking like being a belter! Are you coming? Let us know... don't forget, you can find us on Facebook and MySpace too! Sunday 22nd August 2010 (3pm) - The Bridge, Manchester Road, Huddersfield (CANCELLED!!!) D ue to a "cock up on the licensing front" by Huddersfield Council, wewill not be playing at The Bridge, Huddersfield this Sunday. Thanks to Dawn for rescheduling us later in the year. Apparently Dawn is now doing food at the pub and has extended her opening hours so we recommend everyone to drop in and place an order sometime! 27th May 2010 We're back in rehearsal - scraping the rust off the strings and getting ready for rocking! Less than a month before our first public appearance and less than two months before our official comeback gig! Resurgence are ready to rock! 26

November -
Thanks to Ol' Git Mav for this review of last night's gig at
the Cross Keys in Morley: 15th
October - Many
happy returns to Helen who turns the big four-oh today! Helen
left us the following message: One
more thing folks - the website might disappear for a couple
of days soon - that's because our current host is kicking us
off so Helen's got to sort it (and she's got a big party to
deal with first!). If you are reading this you are welcome to
join us at West Leeds Sports and Social on Saturday night -
our good friends The Erics will be providing the music and Helen's
providing the cake. September
2009
16th
August - Last week
saw our debut appearance at The Fenton in Leeds - with all our
Duck friends joining us for the occasion. We enjoyed it very
much but it will be nice 'to be home' in October now the Duck
has reopened its doors. Luckily we avoided a parking ticket
after the van decided to break down on the double yellows -
one starter motor later she's back in action! 31st
July - Having heard
from more than one Resurgence fan that there was a poster advertising
a future appearance at the Golden Lion on 1st August we got
in touch with the pub to find out that, indeed, our diaries
did not match - we had 22nd August, they had tomorrow! 16th
May - A surprise extra appearance from
Maddog last night - still stuck in Leeds he was able to join
us at the Lion for one more West Yorkshire gig. It was a brilliant
night despite the initial signs it was going to be a wash-out
- what an awesome thunderstorm! Anyway, in the event many souls
braved the elements and we want to say particular hellos and
thanks to:
22nd April - We were saddened to hear from Nigel Blooz that his very good friend Pete, also known with fondness to Resurgence as Pete-Mate of our Parsnip Posse, died last week. Pete-Mate became a firm fan of the band when we appeared at The Admiral Duncan and most recently took the trouble to travel over to see us at the Duck and Drake on more than one occasion - we were delighted to get his 'seal of approval' on the effect Kerrie had had on the band. He was enthusiastic, generous and a gentleman (and he had excellent taste in music!). Although we only ever got the chance to spend a few hours in his company, we will miss him... and now we'll never be able to join him on that tour abroad he talked about often. RIP Pete-Mate xx 21st April Helen has been a bit lax with the updates from the past two Saturdays due to the most unbelievable toothache - soon to be cured by a quick visit to the man in white on Saturday she hopes! Meanwhile here are links to some good photos from both gigs, and a copied review with thanks to The Old Git Mav and Kenny from Team Sober respectively. The
Cross Keys Photos - 18th April And finally here's a photo of two bunny boys!
At
the Thornhill: Big thanks again to Steve for all his support
and enthusiasm for live music. Thanks to Tommy and Gary for
their enthusiastic support and especially to Tommy for making
us laugh!
22nd
February
Some of us have been having a bit of
a winter holiday after the rally last weekend. It was a blinder of
a night, made all the better by the great company. Panos and Andy
were there, plus several other members of Team Sober (hi guys), a
great bunch of rally goers from across the country and of course the
wonderful Stef, resplendant in a lime green stripy number! We had
dancers in the sound check which is always a good sign... and when
we really got down to business so did they. Can't wait till May!
And
finally, on the subject of celebrations... January 2009 26th January : It was injury central this weekend and unfortunately we could not oblige with an encore after a very enjoyable night amongst friends at The Roscoe - but urgent medical treatment was needed for one member (and a few snot rags for some of the rest of us!). Steve has passed on some Boxing Day photos for Helen to process - so some will be on by the end of this week. On Saturday we were delighted to play good friend Clive's birthday party in Shadwell and to have Max, Sam, Jamie and Jennifer get up and perform some songs both before us and with us. It's great to see there's such a future pool of talent out there, with some excellent drumming, guitar playing and vocals on display. Click Here for some photos from Shadwell Club 13th January : Many thanks to everyone who came along to Farnley Sports and Social Club on Saturday Night and helped us raise over £725 for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund. After her 'bit of a funny turn' Helen just wanted to let you all know that she is fine now, honestly - she'll just keep taking the medicine! There should be some photos posted here soon...
27th
December: An
excellent Boxing Day bash with guest guitarist Gaz from Tantrum doing
a sterling job - nice to see the gang from Hard Shoulder pogo-ing
at the front. You get to drink any of that beer guys?! Hopefully Manchester
Steve has captured some shots for posterity - we shall find out soon... 21st November:: Unfortunately the Tut'N'Shive ladies look like they're packing it in, at least for the time being so we're not playing on 28th November now. We will be in Morley on Saturday 29th instead at The Cross Keys, so bring your party across town! 20th
November:: Next
time you see us we'll have tickets on sale for this up-and-coming
event - we're raising money for an excellent cause - click here to

October
2008 20th
October - We've had a great weekend! On Friday
it was our first gig at The Cross Keys in Morley for nearly a year,
and our first chance to try out their excellent stage. Poor Kerrie
lost her voice at the end of the night and it was touch and go for
Saturday! We're very much looking forward to playing there again next
year and meanwhile you can see some photos here: 3rd
October - You know how sometimes
nothing goes right? We certainly had one of those nights at the Duck
last Saturday night - strings snapped, words left brains, new songs
would not co-operate - someone definitely kicked a cat last weekend!
It was still great to see all our mates turn out to support us - Kate,
Sheila, Andy Mac, Panos, Alex, Tommy, everyone from GEMCC and especially
good to see Andy from the 'Fluffy Bunnies' come down to meet Kerrie.
As they say, overall "Twern't all bad" despite everything
(and we were chuffed to get I Want you to Want Me back into the set)
- but not exactly a gig for the history books! Even Helen's knicker
elastic gave up on her! September
2008 17th
September - What a great party
last weekend with our new friends in the Virago Star Owners' Club
to celebrate Kev and Jen' wedding - with everyone (including our Dave)
undressed to the nines in their best Rocky Horror wear it was truly
a bash to remember - here's hoping that the hangovers weren' too bad
for Saturday's wedding day - at least the weather was kind! There
will shortly be piccies to see. 3rd September -
2nd September - Hi folks! Just to let you know we're still here! We're about half way through our summer holidays and we'll be back in action mid-September. Helen is still working on the photos and new Youtube videos - honest! August 2008 9th August - Another two great weekends to review... well we certainly had a great time. Firstly it was off to Sheffield to open the Saturday Night live entertainment of the 5th Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) Yorkshire Pudding Rally. Also on the bill that night were our friends Motus and new friends Spank the Monkey. The weather was kind to us all for once leading to a warm (and dry) atmosphere in which to rock out, drink beer, drink more beer and generally hang out with the gang and our friends (and eat bacon butties and drink tea the next morning - lovely). Thanks to Sheila and Vanessa from MAG for inviting us to play the event and to everyone who attended and who cheered us on - especially all our mates from GEMCC and Leeds MAG and the wonderful Stef. Special thanks to Tree for her company - she is a top groupie and quoth 'I'm With the Band' with pride LOL! And then to the Tut'n'Shive - our second visit since Kat and Jo took over the pub and it was great to see them again (and be remembered fondly). We must have done something right because we've been booked to play Bonfire Night (apparently the place gets packed so get there early if smoky clothes and standing in the rain watching the same bloomin' council display as last year is not your bag! Vikki from Angel of Sin and Banger from Export were along with their lovely 'other halves' - Peter and Amanda respectively - so we had a bit of a boogy with the girls, on stage and off, and even got Banger to join in on Born to Be Wild at the end of the night! Congratulations to Vikki and Peter on their engagement - you should see Vikki's rock! - what else could we do but dedicate that fine wedding song Keep Your Hands to Yourself to them?! It was also lovely to see Jade and her dad (minus the pink Resurgence T-Shirt this time so we did not recognise him!), Ivan (more about him next month) and Phil R - long time no see mate. And we've bought Kerrie a number one fan - it's a chrome one that sits on a pedestal, so at least its a couple of degrees cooler on stage now! Helen has some piccies from the Yorkshire Pudding Rally - they are already available on our Myspace Site as that's quicker to do but she promises she will publish them here soon. We're approaching our August break so get your last fix for a while at the Bridge in Huddersfield next Friday - you know it makes sense! July 2008 31st July - Just a quick update on how our birthday bash at the Duck'n'Drake and our gig at the Arkle went last weekend - both great! Really really hot though! Suzy and John looked after us like royalty at The Arkle and the locals were a great bunch, spending until the early hours telling us some terrible jokes we could not possible publish here! Special mention to Shaun for all the dancing and general audience participation. There was plently of band participation in the audience - we abandoned Graeme at one point to take to the dance floor! Suzy has taken some photos so we'll post them soon. The Duck'n'Drake was even hotter than The Arkle.. and full of friends old and new. Hugs and hellos and mega-thanks due to: Nigel, Trudie, Kate, Sheila, Andy, Alex, Tommy, GEMcc who turned out in force, Jeff, Gary and Jan (who's got some more piccies pending for us). And Pete... we were so pleased to see you and thanks for all the positive feedback! Glad you're still on the rollercoaster ride with Resurgence...! Right - we're off to play at the Yorkshire Pudding rally on Saturday night - fingers crossed for a dry weekend otherwise it'll be snorkels in the tents! 18th
July
-The Daleks tried to invade Castleford today...
July 2008 14th
July
- What a brilliant weekend. On Friday we made our second visit to
the Silsden Sewer Rats' Get Ratted Rally, reuniting with our friends
Jo and Andy and our old nemesis 'The Mud'! Despite torrential downpours
our spirits were not dampened and we really enjoyed our all too short
stint on Showtech's excellent stage, blasting out Resurgence favourites
to a great bunch of folks. We were filling in at the last minute after
Uniting the Elements were forced to cancel the rest of their year's
gigs due to their singer suffering a very nasty, and long lasting,
vocal chord problem. Our sympathy and best wishes to her for a swift
recovery! 9th July - The full website is back on line! Freezoka are having a link problem so we apologise for the mystery box at the bottom of the screen - but grateful Orange refugees can't be choosers! Now maybe we can get on with making music again! 4th July - Some of you will be aware we have been having website problems. Temporarily we have moved the most important bits of the site onto a Free Host (yeah for Freezoka, they're lifesavers) so we get a bit of breathing space to decide what to do next. The photos, posse and all that gubbins will be back soon, but at least you know we're still here! More updates next week...
30th June - There's some new photos from the Duck and Drake on the Photo Gallery. We can't post them to MySpace at the moment as the site is 'undergoing routine maintenance' - whatever that is, and however long it's gonna take! Sorry if you can't get onto the profile - but it's not our fault again! 29th
June - Our
second visit to the Drop Kick in Bradford saw us performing
to a much bigger crowd than last time. Thanks to Tree,
Chris, Sheila and Manchester Steve for their company throughout
the evening, to Landlord Richard for booking us and to
the rest of the audience for being such a nice bunch of
folks. We are now looking forward to a return trip in
the Autumn. 17th June - We've posted our first video (Pretty Vacant at The Lion) to Youtube thanks to Manchester Steve. Hopefully Helen has embedded the link below (since the file is just too big to just post here). Don't forget, this was filmed on a pocket digital camera - the wonders of modern technology eh?
15th
June
- We
had an absolutely excellent night at the Duck and Drake.
Our appreciation to Nigel for the booking and sterling
'mug' work, and to Graham and Andy behind the bar for
their support and good humour. It was great for the new
band to get approval from the 'old guard'. Yes, we know,
less of the 'old'! 9th
June
- We
love playing the Brewery Tap and last Saturday was no
exception. It was cool to see Mark again - yes, we will
record soon, honest...and sorry about the demise of Creep!
Helen met a brand new bassist called Carl (told you she
always meets at least one bassist!). We'll expect a progress
report in September Carl... 3rd
June
- Helen
has been busy again with the photo gallery. More to the
point, our friends Sheila and 'Manchester' Steve have
been busy with their cameras - thanks guys and gals! Steve
kindly brought a disk full of photos and videos from our
Lion gig over to Huddersfield (and took away another camera
full of shots) whilst Sheila and Andy came along to The
Bridge to start their advance honeymoon holiday (they
get married next Saturday!) with a night out with the
band and Sheila has also winged some cuttings our way.
We all had a grand old time that night with Dawn, Derek,
Shelley, Tree, Chris, Sheila, Andy and the rest of the
gang at one of our favourite venues - Dave even went busking
outside and earned 30p!
30th
May
- Extremely
quick update as we are off to the Bridge tonight! 23rd May - OK folks. Time for a bit of an update. First of all - there are some new photos posted in the gallery from the last New Roscoe gig - many thanks to Kerrie's Dad for sterling David Bailey efforts on our behalf - there are some great shots!
"We had time to shoot over to Castleford as I wanted to see Resurgence with a now settled and confident singer Kerrie. When Jo left the band I thought it might be the beginning of the end but how pleased I am to be completely wrong. The band as a whole were superb on Friday night and Kerrie has all the talent and attitude that Jo had, plus a bit more. I think Resurgence are better than ever and with new songs in the repertoire, this band really rocks! I thought Nickleback's "Rockstar" was excellent, and "Pretty Vacant" with female vocals was brilliant. Top marks to the band as a unit, the sound was spot on and the musicianship faultless". It was a really great gig - we had a fantastic time - and The Lion is an excellent venue with a top crowd who enjoy their beer (and cocktails apparently, but who wouldn't at four for a fiver!) and their rock music. With any luck Julie will be able to slot us in again sometime this year. We're also looking forward to seeing how our new friend's photos came out like - 'Manchester Steve' ventured 40 miles or more just to see us having found us on MySpace... and is coming back for more at the Bridge apparently. What a top fan! Right
- time for us to score some more Medinite and Kleenex
and then off for an early night - with three of the band
down with the man (or bird) flu it's more blankets and
slippers than Rock'n'Roll for now! 23rd May - Those of you who have not been reading our MySpace site will probably be wondering what the hell has happened to this 'master' site with no update since the beginning of May. Well, as you can see below, Helen has been updating the site but she has not been able to get it uploaded to the Orange Server and thus she has been trying to keep folks informed on the MySpace at least. We are now back in business and, over the course of the week we hope to post some new photos (from the Roscoe in May) and also a couple of reviews of our Lion Gig. Meanwhile, if you think that there seems to have been a long delay for a site update and no obvious reason, click on our Myspace site - our mood stamp might tell you why! 20th May - We're having broadband problems again - this time it seems to be Orange's server that's not well, but suffice to say please forgive us if the website is ever a bit out of date. Helen's hair is considerably shorter with the past couple of days of trying to get back on-line (and that doesn't include how short her bank balance is with tech support calls at 50p a min! - isn't it amazing that it takes at least a fiver till someone actually tells you there is a more global problem?!!) . 19th May - A hectic but fun night at the Black Pig Rally last Friday. The weather just about held off for us all and it was lovely to see some familiar faces from the East Leeds Lions amongst the crowd. Shored up by copious cups of tea - very rock and roll! - we performed a long set broken only by a 'wee break' to a very friendly and enthusiastic audience, some of whom danced to everything. There's nothing better than a repeat booking... except being handed a laminated flyer for next year's rally with your band's name on it as you leave the marquee! Thanks Stef - can't wait for this October... and next May! Hi to Narnia if she ever manages to track this site down - hope the hangover wasn't too epic! This Friday is important folks- we're playing the Lion in Castleford for the first time. So be there or... miss it! 14th May - It's been far too hot to update the site this week! Suffice to say that the small audience who were not having a barbecue last Saturday seemed to enjoy our efforts at The Shay and it was great to see Baz and Lisa again and to treat Lisa to our brand new Transvision Vamp song. We might be helping The Shay out with a charity do in the Autumn so watch this space. The more eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed we're not doing the Owlett Hall later this month - this is due to a slight cock up somewhere on the diary front and the stage aint big enough for the both of us, so we're taking a rain check till November! There are still plenty of chances to see us this month though - including our first trip to Nottingham this year and our first trip to The Lion in Cas. Can't wait! Gotta go now - more songs to learn! 4th May - It was a great return to nighttime gigs at the Roscoe on Friday, and there was a raft of familiar faces out to support us too. Take a bow... Simon and Linda (now inducted into the Parsnip Posse along with several others!) - by the way guys, there's a Saturday gig in Leeds at the Duck on 27th September but we hope we'll see you before then! -, Alex, Kate, Phil, Kerrie's folks (all the way from 't'other side of the Watford Gap), Dave (Gunlaw) Marsh and Michaela. Hello to Gary who came up at the end and also to Steve who's now also a Myspace Friend. Have you added us yet, or mailed us to join the Posse? Cheers to everyone else in the audience we haven't or can't name. Hope you enjoyed the new songs - there'll be plenty more where they came from over the next few months but don't worry - the majority of the old favourites are still in the repertoire. It's just Resurgence refreshed and rejuvenated (and lots of other words starting with R!). For those of you who are 'homebodies', the next Leeds gig is on Friday 13th June at the Duck and Drake.. so don't let the black cat out, avoid ladders, don' step on any cracks in the pavement, cut out all salt on your chips that day and come down the Duck to rock with Nigel and co! (Hope to see you there Rose and Dennis - it's been ages since we had a good boogie!) Everyone else - we'll see you at the Shay! April 2008 28th April - We've posted a few shots by our good mate Shaun from the gig at the Thornhill Arms whilst we await the extra shots taken by the Pudsey Cobras resident webmaster and photographer Stephen. It was a really enjoyable night as they so often are when you know half of the folks in the pub and leave knowing the other half too! Cheers to Steve for re-inviting us, Angie for her hospitality, everyone connected with Leeds MAG who came down - Kate, Dave, Alice, John, Sheila, Andy, to Paul Wray - lighting engineer extraordinaire from Export who only had to crawl back over the road to his house :) - to Annette (on the first team of Kerrie's fans!) and to Tony from the club in particular for the conversation. Well done to the club and Go Kommando for raising over £300 for the Air Ambulance the next night - and yes we did chip in. You never know when someone you know might need that urgent flight! We've finally got a night spot at the Roscoe next Friday - be there early to get a good seat for the first set! 23rd April - Just a quick note to say that the Bridge rocked as usual thanks to Dawn and Derek's hospitality and the lovely old and new friends who came down to see us. We're really looking forward to our first Friday night there at the end of May. 20th April - Great night yesterday at the Barge in Brighouse. A friendly and appreciative crowd and great team of Bar Staff, Landlady and Landlord. Kerrie launched some new boots for the occasion - thigh high white PVC! - and the whole evening flew by. Here's hoping we get to play there again. Hello to Mike, Joe, Dawn, Andrea and Brenda and also to Eddie who knew us from Cleckheaton. See you all at another gig soon! 16th April - For those of you wondering where we've been for the past week or so, here's a quick precis: The computer threw a wobbly and we were very much in danger of losing all our files (we did lose all our e-mails). Graeme had to put on his 'techy' hat and perform some miracles to get us back online. So if you are reading this, we really recommend you do a files back-up once you log off - it's a 'reet bugger' when you lose it all! We have thus not had much opportunity to let you know that the Bold Privateer gig went very well, to say hello to Mark and his lovely lady friend and also to thank Brian Glover for coming down to see us and have a chinwag. Hopefully normal service has (sort of) been resumed!! March 2008 31st March - It was good to be back at the Tut'n'Shive after all the cancellation shennanigans the venue suffered last year. We, along with many other bands we're sure, are grateful to Graham from Motus, who manages the Tut's diary, for perservering through two changes of management at the pub and for booking us back in a few times this year. On arrival we met Jo and Kat, newly in charge and keen to restore the pub to the top echelons of the live music venue list - you know things are going well when the landladies are singing along with your set. It was a relief to actually perform because just as we plugged in the desk something 'exploded' inside and, for a time, we were facing Resurgence 'Unplugged'! Luckily Maddog's solo project Dave-id rode to the rescue in the form of his spare head (makes him sound like Kryten from Red Dwarf!) and the show did indeed go on. Cheers MD! Name checks: Mark (nice to see you again!), Bob - sound engineer from AoS (and sound guy!), Steve (nice to meet you and hope to see you again - maybe next Friday), Jo and Kat (thanks for having us!) and also to Kate and Sarah - cheers guys (gals?). And one last belated happy birthday to Tony and hi to Sue. Some of us are off to the Tut this Friday to see Export... or you could go see The Erics at the Carriers... or The Rakiteers are playing... in fact the choice is endless! 25th March - Photos now published (on Myspace and on the Photo Gallery) from the East Leeds Lions Rally! 24th March - The hypothermia has worn off at last! What a brilliant time we had at the East Leeds Lions - an early kick-off at 6:30pm did not stop the hardy rally-goers from filling the marquee and a couple of brave blokes were even dancing topless - brrrrr! We'd like to thank Graham of East Leeds Lions (who is also the excellent drummer from Export) for booking us and giving us the opportunity to tread those boards once again and to the guys from Showtec and the guys and gals from the Lions for looking after us so well. Thanks again to Jan, Sheila, Tree, Sheila and Andy Mac and Dawn for being at the front of the crowd supporting us all the way - and we saw you out there, nice bloke from the Fluffy Bunnys! Jan's took loads of photos so watch out for some on here and on the myspace site very soon. For those of you wondering what we got up to at the Grove Lea in Pontefract the other weekend - we had a very enjoyable time and Kerrie's family all came along to see what we've gotten her into! The rest of the crowd were a bit sparse but it was early days for Steve's Saturday nights (we were the trailblazers). The pub is great, the booze choice is wide and the playing space is not bad at all (and it's an easy load in and out). It's a great venue and we recommend that you all get out there and see some of Steve's up and coming bands and support live music Pontefract style. Steve even linked up some Licorice and Sambuca shots to try to cure Helen's cold - rocket fuel in a glass! 15th March - Apologies for the late write up on last week's gig at the Bridge but Helen's been laid up with the cold from hell thanks to Dave sharing his germs with her. A great Sunday afternoon was had by all - Dawn and Derek's pub is a really laid back biker friendly pub with cheerful and friendly punters and staff and is just the sort of venue we love to play. We're back there again in April and are also looking forward to playing a Friday night there in the spring. Meanwhile the Thornhill Arms is back in action and we're provisionally back in the diary for April, and it looks like we might also be playing the Yorkshire Pudding Rally in August - cool! Tonight it's the Grove Lea in Pontefract - a new venue, with the Kleenex accompanying us onstage! 9th March - We've added some photos from FRock to the Photo Gallery page - and there's even more photos for you to see on Myspace as promised!
We had an excellent response to Jeepster, so it looks like that's a permanent addition to the set and Helen also promises to play all the notes to Pretty Vacant in the right order next time, honest! Kerrie recovered quickly from an early Gin and Tonic shower and was resplendent in her pink feathers! You can read Steve Lally's brief review of the day on Rock of the North, and later this week Helen will be posting some of the excellent photos taken by Jan Davies and Steve Lally and there'll be even more on Myspace... where there's more space! Name checks to Tree, Sheila, Jan, Sheila Mac, Kate, Jan, Alex, Tommy, Darren, Ian, Elaine and everyone else whose names Helen's forgotten (AGAIN!) for coming to support Resurgence in particular and thanks to everyone who turned out throughout the day for such a worthy cause February 2008 28th February - Helen has been well and truly bitten by the Myspace bug - if hot pink glitter is your thing then you should feel right at home on our site - check it out and join our friends list! 20th February - Big thanks to Brian Glover for handing us a bunch of gigs last night - especially for the chance to return to Nottingham so Helen and Graeme's relatives get the opportunity to see them in action again (hope you're paying attention Notts lot)! Unfortunately Steve at The Thornhill Arms is leaving his pub at the end of February so he's cancelling bands from then and we're a victim of that, so we won't be there on 13th March. We WILL be at the Grove Lea on 15th March where it will be a pleasure to play for our previous Nottinghamshire Landlord, Steve, ex-The New Drum, Mansfield, in his new Yorkshire venue. Meanwhile, the learning of new songs continues... 16th February - Some of Resurgence went to see The Erics on Valentine's Night - and what an excellent gig it was, as usual. Must cost them a bit in red balloons to distribute each gig, but we all love a gimic - which reminds us - must get some more glowbangles....! We've also been busy in the rehearsal studios and are hoping to launch at least one more song at Frock of the North to add to the two newbies some of you heard at the Roscoe, if not more. Finally for today - Helen has added some new photos to the site, so why not click and have a look? 10th February - We've got our second bike rally of the year - we're going to feature on the Friday night at the Black Pig Rally in Malton. Meanwhile, whilst we prepare for Frock of the North and getting back into regular gigging in March, why not support Tantrum's up-and-coming fundraiser at the Farnley Sports and Social Club in Leeds where they, along with the Rock 'A' Billy Rebs and Mac the Knife will be raising funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Charity. Advance tickets are a fiver or it's six quid on the door - a bargain! 4th February - A new era has begun. New and old friends got together at The New Roscoe to see Kerrie blast out the Resurgence set, including two brand new numbers and some old favourites not heard for quite some time. Big thanks to everyone who came down for their support and patience when the bass pedal went straight through the kick drum skin - thank goodness for Gaffer tape and beer mats! Jan took a whole memory card full of photos so watch this space for some shots of Kerrie's amazing outfit and possibly the exclusive on the new band 'publicity shot'... And talking of new stuff we've got a myspace site at last. It is massively in its infancy but you can be our friends at http://profile.myspace.com/resurgencebiz - but don't forget to e-mail us here to to join the Parsnip Posse! Only a month to go to Frock of the North - don't forget it's free entry all day so you can spend the cash on souvenir t-shirts, wristbands and raffle tickets instead to help raise money for two cancer research charities - Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Everyman. Check out Rock of the North for the latest news! January 2008 27th January - Just got a call from Steve, Landlord of the Grove Lea in Pontefract - turns out it's Steve who used to run the New Drum in Mansfield - we were scheduled to play back there in January 07 before the rains came and flooded his excellent upstairs room; it's great to hear he's back on the scene and nearer to home and we are very much looking forward to launching his monthly Saturday Night rock nights on 15th March. Here's to them being a success and becoming more frequent! 21st January - Well, an end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new one for Resurgence. After a family wedding event and a last gig in Middlesbrough JoJo has finally departed for pastures new - good luck for the future! After a sneaky practise gig we chucked at her last week Kerrie has now fully assumed the lead Rock Chick mantle - and it suits her very well indeed. A formal welcome to the band Kerrie! And finally for this entry, a couple of name checks - congratulations to Brad and Dana on their wedding, Brocko on his 40th birthday and our Dave on passing his exams! See you at the Roscoe everyone... 1st January - Happy New Year everyone! Before anything else, just in case you thought we'd forgotten, we must thank everyone who came down to the Duck and Drake on 23rd December and made JoJo's last gig in Leeds with Resurgence such a great one - to Pete, Rose and Dennis, all of Leeds Mag, Andy and Mandy, Kate, Satty, Sheila, Tom, Oliver, Alex, Jeff, Gary, John, Tommy and all the rest of the crowd - thank you for all your support over the years. We're looking forward to a great 2008 with you all and to introducing you to Kerrie when we return in February - bigger, louder (is that possible?) and faster with a new voice, some new songs and the same ol' Resurgence vibe! And special thanks once more to Nigel - without whom the Duck and Drake would not be the top venue it is - and Gary for the interval entertainment. Keep an eye out for Gary on the solo circuit this year. it's going to be a Rockin' 2008! December 2007 17th December - Guess who's got a cold. Yep - Helen is feeling very sorry for herself and is being very slack about updating the site this week! However, she battled on through the weekend's gigs, generously sharing her germs with everyone else! No gig should ever go by again without a novelty top 'rapping' penguin headbanging on a stool to some Resurgence Rock but it does look like a 'one-night-wonder' from John, Landlord of the Masons. That bird had rhythm though! The football and the weather kept many inside on Sunday afternoon in a very chilly Huddersfield, but it was nice to still see some familar faces enjoying the show... and some of our youngest fans ever. We were just discussing who won the reward for youngest of the babies there when in walked a young lady avec bump... so does that count?! We're taking our first trip to Doncaster on Sunday if the van will make it... and then its our Christmas Party at the Duck and Drake (and JoJo's last official Resurgence gig). Should be a cracker! 11th December - We had a phone call from Julian at the Barge in Brighouse - unfortunately we could not do the date he had this year - but he's kindly given us a date for next year instead - 19th April. Cheers Julian!
November 2007
28th November - Thought you all might like to see this photo from the Rock of The North Convention -Dave and Big Sexy Dave Eric ... 21st November - Good grief - nearly a month without any updates, sorry folks! So, what's been going on? Well, we made our debut at the Drop Kick in front of Tony (from Soul 7) and Kath and, for the first set, a couple of top blokes from the Bridge Rats. Good room - shame about the usual Bradford apathy! Then last weekend we were back at the Shay in Halifax. Hi to Lesley and Kevin (or Keith - sorry - crap memory strikes again!). We really appreciated your kind comments and we did have a great time. Big thanks to Sheila and Andy for travelling from Leeds to support us. Sheila wants to sing backing vocals for a Leeds band to build up her experience if anyone's interested...? Meanwhile, here's the reason things have been so hectic - We've some sad news and some glad tidings! The sad news is that, as of the end of this year, JoJo is moving on to pastures new (well, actually she's staying in Roundhay but she plans to write her own material...). So we've been busy advertising, meeting lovely people (big big thanks and hellos to both Lisa and Donna), auditioning them and also getting in a bit of a flap about next year... But flap no more ... our new Rock Chick is here...(or will be here in 2008)! Her name's Kerrie and you shall learn more about her soon...
October 2007 30th October - Things are a bit hectic at the moment so we'll post some better updates soon but meanwhile please note that we will be at the Dropkick in Bradford on Saturday instead of the Cup and Ring. See you there! 15th October - Change of plan again - we're not playing at the Three Horseshoes now due to the World Cup Final - better than playing to an uninterested room we suppose - let's hope we win! Happy Birthday Helen, by the way... 21 again, not! 14th October - We're back from our jollies! We've added some more gigs for next year to our gig guide - just to also confirm that we will not be playing at the Fox and Newt on Halloween or the Kings Arms in Silsden on 15th November due to circumstances beyond our control. Please support Blackout at the Duck and Drake or The Erics at the New Inn in Walton on Halloween instead and whomever The Kings Arms get to replace us on that November Thursday - we'll still see you all at one of our other Halloween oriented events - Leeds MAG's Halloween bash on Friday 26th October or at the Admiral Duncan on Saturday 27th. Oh, and just a reminder that our performance at the Three Horseshoes on 20th October will begin at 10pm, after the Rugby World Cup Final!
September 2007 20th September - As usual, a brilliant night at the Duck and Drake with the usual friendly audience all up for some rockin' fun. Cheers Nigel! Big Hellos to Kate and to Nick who came along specially. We're having a bit of a holiday now ... see you later in October world! 20th September - Didn't Jeff do well on Saturday night after only two rehearsals! We kept his nose right to the grindstone and apparently we're much more 'intense' than Tantrum! Huge huge thanks to Jeff for helping out and to our regular fans (you know who you are!) for coming along and supporting us and bearing with us over the b*ll*cks, of which there were not that many! Hello to Bob, sound person for Angel of Sin, and generally sound person, who made himself known - nice to meet you. Graeme's back in the saddle for the Masons and our first trip to the Bag and Barrow this weekend... is Allerton Bywater ready for Resurgence?! 14th September - It's the big day tomorrow - Guest drummer Jeff from Tantrum is to join the band for our gig at the Tut'N'Shive. 9th September - Another great night at the Bellhouse Club last night - lovely to see Eddie, Stacey and the rest of the gang again, out in force in their Resurgence-wear. Many thanks to the lovely lady in the bright green top who spent an effusive five minutes at the end of the night telling us how great we were... makes it all worthwhile even if it wasn't true (we say modestly). We did enjoy it though, and if everyone else did too, then that's what matters! 8th September - It felt good to be back after our first holiday this year, and it was a fun first gig at the Sun Hotel. It was a bit like a usual gig in reverse actually - there was dancing at the sound check, a big crowd boogying it up first set and then a smaller crowd second set as people had to trickle off early to get transport! 6th September - Well, we're back on the road tonight and off to the Sun Hotel in Shipley. Quite appropriate given the weather at long last! It will be nice to play at another new venue, and to release those stiff joints ready for our return to the Bellhouse on Saturday night. Look out for our gig at the Tut'n'Shive on 15th too - we will have a special guest drummer... August 2007 30th August - It's summer holidays... so it must be time to open next year's diary. Well, since we've already got six confirmed bookings plus the potential for a couple of bike rallys (weather permitting!) we've had to open ours anyway. We've also been invited to play in the North East in the new year, so watch out Middlesborough! Meanwhile MadDog and Graeme are galivanting around different bits of the country on holiday, JoJo's embarked on a new career, Dave's got another Manta to lie underneath and weld and Helen can't really stand up after a day and a half's weeding so we'll probably be glad to get back to gigging for the rest! 20th August - There's been a new gig and a change of venue added to the gig list . All gigs at the Ranbrook club have been cancelled so we are delighted to be returning to the Three Horseshoes in Skelmanthorpe again to see Linda and the gang. We are also confirmed as playing the GEMcc Christmas Party at West Leeds Sports and Social Club on 7th December - it'll be £4 on the door but everyone is welcome. You don't have to have a bike - you just have to want to rock!.... Oh, and just an addendum to the below - Pete mate, thanks for the round of drinks! Much appreciated - our round next time! xxx 19th August - Excellent pre-holiday gig last night at the Admiral Duncan in Wakefield. Great to see old friends Pete and Lee (founder member of the Parsnip Posse) and also Amanda, Gary and Tracy, plus new fans James and Sarah. We're now going to have a couple of weeks recharging the old batteries and will be back at the Sun Hotel and then the Bellhouse in September. See you then! 17th August - A well-lubricated night at the Duck and Drake to celebrate Mad Dog's birthday - thanks to everyone who came and if we see the lady who won the t-shirt but could not claim it because we were mid-song at a future gig you have the pick of the box love! Sorry! Just come up and yell at us a bit! 16th August - Stop Press!!! We're playing the Duck and Drake tomorrow - Friday 17th - at very very short notice. And it's Mad Dog's birthday tomorrow; let's just say it's one with a zero in it... so come on down and help us celebrate with him! 13th August - Last week's gig at the Roman Baths certainly had one of the most classy backdrops for a Resurgence performance - replica Roman 'muriels' no less. It all looked like it was going to be a bit quiet at the start, and, as might be expected, parking in York was a nightmare - how does anyone ever unload anything in that city centre?! - but it turned out to be a 'reet enjoyable' gig with everyone staying to the very last song. 7th August - Another good Sunday at the Crimea - congratulations to Jim Duggan - surely not old enough to be a Grandad twice over?! Another rising star in the form of 10-year-old Jack took to the stage in the interval and blasted out some top riffs. That'll be us out of a job soon then! 5th August - August's here, and so's summer (for as long as it lasts). Hello to everyone at the Woodman in Bradford and the George Hotel in Brighouse who came to see us this week - poor ol' JoJo's been left with a bit of a cough after the cold she's had, so there's been a bit of set juggling to save her voice - thanks for bearing with us! After our first trip to the Roman Baths next week we've got a weekend off (except Dave who's off to Wales to play at a wedding with Tantrum) and it's nearly summer holiday time - woohoo! We'd like to nominate the Woodman as the venue with the most amusing toilets - the jokes they hang behind the doors are brilliant! July 2007 30th July - Great afternoon at the Roscoe yesterday - you never can predict Sundays down there, but the sun shone literally and metaphorically and we had a lovely crowd in. Big hellos and hugs to posse members Rose and Dennis and Alex - troopers all - and also to the lovely folks who knew us from the Tut'n'Shive and brought their girls down for their first ever gig! Cool! And finally we were chuffed to bits to see Slash - 's'been ages mate - we've missed ya! - and Carl. Thanks everyone. That's it for Leeds till September so we hope you stocked up with your Resurgence fix while you could! 27th July - Think the weather put lots of people off on Thursday night but it was nice to meet up with some members of the Sewer Rats in the King's Arms - all in all a laid back night in good company - good job with poor Jojo being full of cold! We hope that finger's on the mend soon Andy - double ouch!! If you're a biker looking for good company in the Silsden area then here's where to find them...SEWER RATS 22nd July - Had a brilliant night at the Duck and Drake last Thursday - busy pub and everyone up for a good time...! Things were a bit more subdued at the Cross Keys. Even with our girly-biased set you've no chance of keeping a hen-party in one pub all night. Cheers to Sue, Tony and Kate for coming to see us and hi to the guys from Wakefield MAG who made the trip. Sorry we can't play in October due to prior committments! 15th July - Time for a quick update on the weekend before we go back to sleeping it off and washing the mud out of the van...! Thursday 12th saw us at the Queen Victoria in Northowram - an unusual cross between a pub and a Thai Restaurant (the sight of all that lovely grub was making us drool!). A quick hello to David who had seen us before at the George in Brighouse. We played at the lowest volume you'll probably ever hear Resurgence manage - steam was coming from Graeme's ears with the strain! ;-) Friday 13th at the Bold Privateer - not a bad gig despite having to wait for the rugby to finish - good job Bradford won so everyone was in a good mood - hi to Steve who knows us from The Brewery Tap. And then finally on Saturday Night it was the Get Ratted Rally in Addingham Moorside. BIG thanks to the Showtec guys for giving us such a great sound again and in such difficult circumstances - the mud fairy had really come to town! Still, Helen managed to slip out of her wellies and into her stilettos at the side of the stage. We also got to meet Mal (and the rest) of the Spunksters and put some names to famous faces - hi guys! Thanks especially to Jo from the Sewer Rats for looking after us (and booking us) and to everyone else from the club who did such a good job with the rally. Looks like we might have a couple of bookings for next year now - let's hope it's stopped raining by then! See you all at the two birthday gigs next week... 9th July - Local hero Brian Glover has once again solved our 'at a loose end' problems for a few more dates this year - three new places to visit and meet new people - check out the gig list for more... 8th July - A weekend off brought about by the Coopers' cancellation and then other committments enabled some of us to return to The Crimea on Friday to support our mates and 'top drawer' band The Erics. Luckily Helen and Dave did not break any major bones whilst performing stunt dances on stools near Stig at the sound desk to the strains of' Swords of 1000 Men' and 'I would walk 500 Miles' so we will be back in action later in the week. PS - Just to clarify folks - flattering though it is that we have been listed as playing at the Fox'n'Newt on 28th July we are, in fact, not doing so and were never scheduled to do so. We are still shown on the website though so we're just letting you know to avoid disappointment. See us at the Roscoe on Sunday afternoon of 29th July instead - we're actually booked to play there! June 2007 30th June - Absolutely brilliant night at the Crimea...what a party! Cheers to Pete for coming from Wakefield especially to see us. Missed you leaving mate - hope you got home before the downpour! Howdy to new friends Trevor and Helen and also Stuart and Alistair - and big thanks to Top Drawer Host Jimmy and also to Baz - out of retirement for one night only - for the top sound. And finally to everyone who made Jan's birthday night gig such a special event - friends (old and new) and family - cheers! Let's do it all again next year for her 30th birthday. Can't believe it's July already. We get a weekend breather next week so Dave's off to 'bass' for Tantrum on Thursday and then many of us will be joining the crowds in the Crimea for The Erics. Busman's holiday or what?!! 24th June - Finally, a quiet moment to review the past few days! First to the Brewery Tap last Thursday. Loads better start to the set than last time and one kind lady told us we were the best band they'd had there on a Thursday (which, as the famous TV slogan goes, 'was nice'!). Did you know we play Sweet Home Alabama? Neither did we, until the encores when we were asked to do so. Maddog knew the chords and Dave knew the words, nobody really knew the lead,so we just improvised...and it went down very well (phew!). Name checks to Gary and Raymond, Nicki and also Sue and Alan (see, Helen still remembers!) On Friday it was the turn of The Bridge in Huddersfield, one of our new favourite venues. It was Joel from FWEs birthday, so we were treated to him being stripped, dressed in a blond wig and forced to do air-guitar to Teenage Kicks - he was very good, and very very very drunk. Cash was raised for charity taking bets on when he would pass out ;-) We are really looking forward to being back there in December for a bit of a party... and you never know, a sooner date might just be on the horizon. Thanks to Dawn... there'll be CDs in the post! And then the event of the year so far - RockoftheNorthStock at Squires. Brilliant day, brilliant bands. Special mentions for Angel of Sin who are a great bunch of people and Do$ch, whose music is right up Helen and Dave's street. But these were just two diamonds in a whole line-up worth of gems...who all gave up their time for free. Well done all the bands. And none of it would have been possible without that top bloke Mr Steve Lally and Rock of the North - it's 'more than just a website'! Make sure you all turn out for the second Rock of the North Convention on 10th November. We'll be there, so you all should be too! Finally, thanks to Paul Abraham from Leeds Music Promotions for a headline spot on his website. He saw our second set last time at the Duck and Drake and said some nice things. Good job the adrenaline had managed to wake us up by set two! Anyway, time for more sleep now. See you at the Crimea on 30th June - it's Jan's birthday! Party on! 18th June - Well, we went from hot, sweaty and knackered last weekend to soggy, muddy and knackered this weekend, but what a brilliant weekend it was! First to The Farmyard... we nearly chickened out of camping out on Friday but took a punt and it paid off - it stopped raining when we got there and did not start again till we hit the stage in the Blues Tent on Saturday afternoon. Meaning a full tent full of fun (and a bunch of naked flashing Scotsmen in the front row)! Mega thanks to all the Marshals who helped when the mud got the van and Dave got STRESSED!!! And massive appreciation to Vanessa for booking us. Cheers to everyone who knew us already and turned out to see us - Kate, Sheila, Andy, Jake, Jan, Dawn and hubby et al ... sorry we did not have time to chat due to having to leg it back to Leeds to play a wedding! Congratulations to Mark and Jan who wed on Saturday. Jan took to the stage with a rendition of Bitch and looked Drop Dead Gorgeous in a meringue of white. Mark and Brocko also helped out on backing vocals for Kids In America and Walk Like an Egyptian - see, all this talent from Leeds Teaching Hospitals Logistics Department. Who'd have thought it ;-) Lugging the gear up three flights of stairs just about finished us off though... and then Dave did it all again on Sunday on bass duty with Tantrum! Double knackered! 12th June - What a hectic weekend. First to the Masons in Mexborough to see John and the gang. Cheers to Peter, Val et al for turning out to see us again; Matt joined us on stage for Teenage Kicks. It's becoming a bit of a tradition! We also (briefly) met Rich of The Unforgiven. Then on Saturday it was off to meet new friends in Skelmanthorpe and this time JoJo was joined by another Jo to sing a bit of Hi Ho and Rocking in the Free World at the end of the night. Boy was it hot though! And, last, but never least, on home ground at the Duck and Drake - another scorcher with all the regulars and posse members - Alex, Sue, Rose, Dennis, Kate. Trouble was, we were so tired and sweaty the first set just did not want to hang together. It got better at half time though, and thanks to Alex for saying that was the best second set he'd heard us play. We needed a bit of a morale boost - we were all hot and knackered! Maybe we're getting a bit old for three in a row! 1st June - We're ringing the gig changes at the start of June. So far as we can establish Thursdays at the Fox'n'Newt have bitten the dust, so we are assuming our 28th June gig is cancelled. However, we have just added a return visit to the Brewery Tap on 21st June instead, which will give us the opportunity to prove once and for all to Bradford that we can play Drop Dead Gorgeous (although maybe we won't start with it this time!). We have also decided to co-host another Halloween event (with local Rockers Tantrum) on 26th October - more to follow, but the summer's only just started! Top bloke Brian is also perusing his diary as we type, so look out for the rest of our spare dates being filled by more new venues and old favourites in the not too distant future. See you at the Masons, The Three Horseshoes or The Duck... or maybe all three?!! May 2007 25th May - Thanks to all who turned out to celebrate our 100th gig at a hot and sweaty Tut'n'Shive. Nice to see Martin, Diane, 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' Charlotte and all the rest of the Tut's 'crew' again, and special thanks to Jan, Sheila, Kate, Sheila and Andy for their support. We chickened out of launching Garbage until we've shaken a few cobwebs off - it's amazing how fast you get rusty! - but we did have a last minute stab at White Wedding. We also launched the proceedings off with Hot Stuff. Pretty good description of the evening, if not our rendition of Baby I Don't Care. How long have we been playing it guys...?!! Anyway, it's back to regular gigging again - and soon we might even be playing a song that is still in the charts...any guesses anybody? 17th May - A new 9th June gig just added - at The Three Horseshoes in Skelmanthorpe. They've just embarked upon live music at the pub - so here's to their new venture and our new venue (and a busy weekend in June!) 11th May - Look out club-land, here come Resurgence! Perhaps a slight exaggeration there but we have added two new club bookings to the gig list - a very welcome return visit on 8th September to Bellhouse Road and a Christmas visit on 22nd December to a new venue that has relaunched its live bands - Askern Spa Central Club in Askern, Doncaster. 7th May - Great 99th gig afternoon at the Bridge in Huddersfield! The pub has a really friendly atmosphere - many thanks to Dawn for inviting us to play. We had inflatable air guitarists (if you see what we mean) joining us on stage and, with a little persuasion from Dave and the radio-mike, everyone joined in with mini-solos on Born to Be Wild. It was very flattering to be remembered by many from our appearance at the East Leeds Lions rally, and there's even talk of a minibus trip from the pub to one of our future gigs. Cool! Can't wait to play there on a Friday night now. Big thanks to Julie and Marcus from Mr Chief for coming along and supporting us. Another great band - check them out on the links page and see them when you can! We are now taking advantage of a couple of cancelled dates in May to recharge our batteries and learn some new songs...so we'll see you all at the 100th gig party at the Tut'n'Shive. April 2007 30th April - Our second visit to the George in Brighouse and we got to meet Glenda and Chris at last. The CD player's been kicked into touch by the MP3 player at long last and had its first outing. It all went well (the shuffle option showed taste and selected two Cramps tracks and a classic 'The Hiding Place' track amongst many others) so you never know what might get played in the intervals now! Graeme's mental block on Want You To Want Me was amusing - the trouble is that you can't wait for the song to start and automatic pilot to kick in when you're the one who starts the bloody thing! We did the song in the encore though - just to prove it did exist. We're chatting to Glenda about a date later in the year soon... 20th April - Last night was much more like it - our second visit to The Station Tavern and we had a great night, topped off by an impromptu busking of 500 Miles by Dave, Maddog and Graeme - looks like we might have to give in and learn it properly (along with everyone else on the circuit but that's customer demand for you!). Hi Ho Silver Lining also had the back row standing on the seats (sorry Tim!) and Hot Stuff's second outing went very well so it won't be long before it gets promoted to first song. It's going to be a long, hot and fun summer. Oops - almost forgot... hello to Mick and Pauline! 17th April - We'll draw a veil over Sunday's gig at the Crimea - suffice to say that our Friday 13th managed to last nearly 72 hours what with someone also breaking into Dave's van on Saturday night whilst he was doing sound for Northern Vinyl (top band - check 'em out on the Links Page) and nicking his favourite cardie! We send our heartfelt thanks to Tony of Cas for his encouragement in a 'down' moment. Glad to report that we've cheered up now because we've been invited to play the 11th Get Ratted Rally - and needless to say we've accepted. 10th April - New gig just added - not long to go as it's on Thursday 19th April at the Station Tavern at Cleckheaton. It was good fun last time - thanks to Tim for having us back! We are also awaiting confirmation on three more gigs...(11/04 - two more added today; thanks to Francis for having us back too!) 9th April - Unfortunately the management at the Admiral Duncan have had no option but to suspend live music for May 2007, so that means our trip there on 12th May is cancelled. We're working on a replacement gig so keep checking back in for news... and if you need a band for 11th, 12th or 19th May, you know where to come. 8th April - Amazing night at the East Leeds Lions Rally - what an experience playing to nearly 2000 people! We had our first stage diver and our first pair of undies thrown onto the stage (if you don't count Graeme lobbing his boxers at JoJo from the drum kit!). And to have 2000 people singing Born to Be Wild with you all at the same time - incredible feeling. Thanks to the Lions for inviting us to play - we loved every minute and it was the fastest hour and a half ever! 2nd April - And another busy weekend over! If you're going to screw things up, do it with style - so we did, with our first song at the Brewery Tap, which fought us all the way after two false starts. Still, we kept smiling and things got a lot, lot better. It turned into a great gig. Bet The Bangles don't get played in that pub very often! The guitars took a bit of a battering though - the ceiling's so low that you have to watch it when you're taking the strap over your head otherwise you hit the headstock on the low ceiling (you can reach up and touch it it's so low). Helen did it three times with the poor Mustang! It was a quiet night on Sunday people-wise at the New Inn in Guiseley which has just started having bands again, but those present certainly seemed to enjoy it and there was plenty of 'boogie-ing' underway by the end of the evening - we could have probably played the whole set again if we'd had the time or energy (or if they'd had the license!).
